Will & Afton

So a bunch of us from my work, 4N, went to the reception for Afton and Will. They both work with us and were married yesterday May 22, 2008. It was a lot of fun for the short time we were there. We all got off work at 7:30pm and didn't get there until 8:30pm. The reception was almost over. They had great food...fruit with dipping chocolate and veggies with ranch. It tasted so good since we hadn't ate since lunch. Congratulations to Afton and Will!

And happy anniversary to Shirley and Brandon!

Float Trip May 2008

I finally was able to go on the annual Float Trip. Steve has been going for the past few years with a bunch of friends while I was stuck studying for finals or studying for Boards. It was great weather while we were down there. We got there on Thursday night about 9pm and were up around the campfire until probably around 1am. On friday we floated the San Rafael river. The drive from our campsite to the drop off is about 10 minutes. It took us almost 4 hours to float back down to our camp. This whole trip down the river is a big booze fest. Everyone gets drunk (besides me) and parties the whole way. Steve and I brought these two lounging tubes to float in. Steve got so hammered that he passed out and floated into these tree branches and popped his tube. Thank god he woke up when he was sinking. He ended up on a tube with a couple other people. My tube wouldn't hold both of us (they were the cheap kind). Anyways to make a long story short, 3 people out of like 12 were sick all night. That's including my kick ass husband since he parties like a rock star. The next day we had a better trip down the river, no sickies.

Recovered Car

So the police called me today at 6:10pm to tell me they found my car. Unfortunately I wasn't able to leave work and they said that my husband could come pick it up. It was found only blocks away from where we live but in the back of an apartment complex. It turns out that mine and another red Honda Civic were there and stolen.
This picture shows where my exhaust manifold was. I guess this controls where the exhaust goes and it can be bad to drive without it. Good thing Steve said we should tow it home.
Apparently they backed my car into something because they messed up my bumper and broke my tail light

Here is a pic of my steering column.

But my devil duck from Powerchart training came through the kidnapping and car theft
Unfortunately they left all their garbage in the car. It is really dirty which really bothers me. And if you notice in the picture below, the box top to a Fresca 12-pack. They drank my husbands 2 12-packs of Peach Fresca that were in my trunk.

Happy Mothers Day

Today we went to my parents for a BBQ. We enjoyed burgers and hot dogs with baked beans. I baked this Raspberry-Peach pie for my mom! It was very delicious.

So my niece Riley decided that her hair needed a haircut. She cut the left side of her hair off so her mom had to get her hair cut really short to fix it. She looks identical to her dad (my brother) when he was a little kid.

My mom really enjoys being Grandma now that she has Riley. They love to buy stuff for her all the time. It's been really great.

Happy Mother's Day to the best mom around!!!

Horseback Riding

So I think it's time to go horseback riding again!!! My friend Chantelle (at left) has 4 or 5 horses which she keeps at her house up past Heber. She took Amy, Shirley and me horseback riding last year. It was a lot of fun to get outside. Definitely made me realize what powerful animals horses are. Too bad Amy is pregnant and can't come this year. We will miss you Amy!

Happy Nurses Week

This past week May 5 - 9th was National Nurses Week. I am so glad to work on 4 North. It is such a wonderful place to work with so many different cultures. I feel that I work on the best floor ever. HAPPY NURSES WEEK!!!!

Grandpa Shelton

So Steve's grandpa has been in and out of the hospital for over 3 months since having a CABG. The last time I saw him we were at his house having dinner. His incision looked good and his chest tube sites looked good. He was doing great. Well that was over a month and a half ago. He has been in the hospital for a good six weeks now. Steve and I were told that he wasn't doing very well and that the doctors told the family they need to make a decision on how much medical intervention they want to do. I was asked to come to the meeting due to being a nurse and seeing this first hand.

I needed to see Grandpa Shelton first before I gave any advice. Remember I hadn't seen him for over 6 weeks. When Steve and I showed up at the doorway to his hospital room, I was in complete shock at how he looked. His body frame had deteriorated tremendously and he had no color to him. He was arousable but would not stay awake for more than a couple minutes at a time. He did not even look like the same person.

Steve and I were able to arouse him and he acknowledged that we were there. He even raised his eyebrows when he saw me. When we left I told him that we would be back and that we love him. He opened his arms to give me a hug. It really meant a lot to me.

You always hope that the family you marry into will accept you for who you are. Steve warned me that Grandpa Shelton didn't approve of tank tops and that maybe I shouldn't wear them to the campouts but thats what I wear during the summer. Grandpa Shelton never said one word to me and always greeted me with open arms. Over the years we have become a family. And now that family is coming to me to ask what my thoughts are on how to help Grandpa Shelton.

It was an emotional family meeting with people not always agreeing. It's not about us anymore, it's about what Grandpa Shelton would want done. I tried to explain what I see in the hospital and what I would do if I were to make the choice. He's out of options and the doctors have tried to find the source of infection to no avail. I hope that my words will help them in their decision. We love you Grandpa Shelton!!!

Hiking

So due to the death of my husband's best friends dad we are not headed to Zion's this weekend for hiking. Though I am in need of the exercise, to be hiking all weekend brings back painful memories.
Two summers ago, Shirley and I went hiking with a few people from work. Louise, Erik and Angelique were more avid hikers than we were. They told us the hike would be a couple hours. We started off early in the morning around 8:30. I brought my dogs with us thinking they would love this. As the hours went on, we went over the first mountain and around 2 or 3 more mountains and then back over another mountain. My poor dogs were so tired and thirsty. After being told it was only a couple hours, I did not bring enough water for them. We finally made it to a spring where they drank their little hearts out. The horseflys were the biggest nuisance on this hike.
When my boys and I finally got home, we were so tired and our muscles hurt so bad. The boys couldn't even get up to go see Steve when he got home. They just whined at him. I thought my toes were going to fall off they hurt so bad. My muscles hurt for a long time. But we made it.

T-Ball

My little 4 year nephew, Grant, started playing T-ball this year. He barely made the cut off for the age group. I went to one of his first games of the season to watch him. It was hilarious because the little kids don't know how to play the game. The team consists of 4 to 6 year olds and you can definitely tell a difference. When Grant or any other little kid would hit the ball they would just stand there. The coaches had to tell them to run to the base. Even then some would run straight down the middle of the field then finally realize they need to run to first base.

Here's Grant hitting the ball.

Robyn, my youngest sister in law, still in here baseball uniform. She plays for Highland High School.

So most of the Shelton side of my family showed up for his game. My in laws, my sister in laws, and two brother in laws. It's a family affair. It was fun to watch and I can't wait for Grant to get better.

My Obsession

I am absolutely in love with these books. I have read them twice now in the past 3 weeks. They leave you hanging on for more and more. I can't wait for the 4th book to come out. There's also a movie coming out which I was at first dissappointed with who they chose for Edward, but he has grown on me. I am excited for the movie to come out. If you haven't read the books you won't understand the obsession but once you read them, it will become clearer to you.
